Press Release
CELEBRITY EQUESTRIAN SCULPTOR AND EQUINE ARTIST HOLD JOINT SHOW AT
MALL GALLERIES
9-14 NOVEMBER
GILL PARKER is one of Britain’s
top equestrian and animal sculptors. The range of her work is truly
impressive and internationally acclaimed and her name is synonymous
with the genre. In 1983 she introduced her bronzes to London and since
1984 has held numerous one woman and joint exhibitions.
Her work is owned by an extraordinarily diverse mix of celebrities
and public figures including the actors Pierce Brosnan and Antony
Andrews, racehorse owner Sheikh Mohammed, Libya’s leader Colonel
Gaddafi, former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and television personality
Noel Edmonds and the late singer Frank Sinatra as well as many top
figures in the racing world.
Her bronzes are beautifully finished and lifelike. They capture the
mood and movement of their subjects with skill and the animal’s
dignity and beauty is conveyed with finesse. She has been awarded
numerous trophies for sporting art and her leisure pursuit is showing
American Quarter horses, as a former European Champion.
She is showing her work with JULIA NOBLE, who specialises in painting
equestrian subjects. Julia’s work emphasizes the unique relationship
between us and the horse.
An accomplished horsewoman herself, she conveys her enthusiasm for
country pursuits in her paintings. Her recent work "Big Country"
shows her development as a painter who can communicate the spectacle
and confusion of a herd of horses on the move in the vastness of the
Texas landscape.
Gill and Julia hope that the show will appeal both to those who share
their fondness for the horse and to those attracted to the colour
and texture of the work or who have an interest in the part the horse
has played in our history. This mutual dependency has spanned continents
and cultures over the centuries. Horses they believe, have probably,
inspired more artists than any other animal and are unique links with
the harmonies of nature.
They both live on the borders of Hampshire and Wiltshire which provide
them with much of their inspiration.
